Sarah Gee is co-founder of Indigo Ltd, the UK’s leading marketing and fundraising consultancy specialising in increasing income and impact for the arts, culture and heritage sectors. Sarah previously worked in a variety of roles in the music business, most recently as Director of Communications for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Her work on customer relationship management, diversifying audiences and rebranding the CBSO received world-wide interest, and has since been used as case studies in many leading journals and universities.
An erstwhile hornplayer, Sarah is a regular trainer and speaker on marketing, branding and fundraising matters in the UK, Austria, Finland, France and Holland. She is well-known for the strength of her networks, which span the private, voluntary and public sectors, and which lead to her being one of only twelve women to be included in Birmingham’s Power 50 in 2008.
Sarah’s commitment to personal social responsibility has seen her become a founding Director of Birmingham Professional Diversity; Chairman of the UK’s most diverse music festival, Gigbeth; a trustee of both Motionhouse Dance Theatre and Spitalfields Music, London; and a former Chairman of Birmingham Future.
In 2004 she was elected as a fellow of the British American Project, an initiative designed to establish stronger trans-Atlantic relationships across both public and private sectors, and between 2002 and 2005 served on the West Midlands panel for the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
Sarah is also involved in Birmingham’s Big City Plan, a masterplan initiative to set the agenda for her home city for the next 20 years; is a member of Birmingham City Council’s People’s Panel; and a regular blogger for The Birmingham Post.
In her spare time, Sarah keeps chickens; enjoys walking, travelling and all forms of arts; and loves cooking for friends with her husband Baz. Her claim to fame is that she studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama alongside a Hobbit and Dr Who!
